Did you know that the creator of Mary Poppins, the world's most loved nanny, lived in Bowral? There is mounting evidence that PL Travers actually came up with the idea for the magical Miss Poppins when she lived in Holly Street, just a few doors down from a young Don Bradman and nearby to Bowral's famous Bradman Oval.

The Southern Highlands Youth Arts Council (SHYAC) is leading the campaign to have Bowral recognised as the Birthplace of Mary Poppins and you are invited to take part.

Here is an opportunity for ordinary members of our community to be part of a world record-breaking team.

Get Involved by bringing your family and friends to Bradman Oval, Bowral, from 1pm on May 7, 2011, to participate in our world record attempt. We will form the shape of Mary Poppins on the Oval from people holding umbrellas. Expect to see it broadcast around Australia and the world. This is one of two records to be broken on the day!

Afterwards, stay for a screening of Disney's Mary Poppins movie (from 5:30pm), plus fireworks and other activities.

Don't forget your umbrella!

The current record for the largest umbrella mosaic consisted of 1,026 people holding umbrellas in an event organized by Mlekara (Serbia) in Subotica, Serbia on Oct 9th 2009.
