FOR young people trying to get cast in a new show or practice their stage craft, almost nothing is more terrifying than an audition.

But getting on stage can be exciting and exhilarating at the same time. It all depends on confidence in your ability to perform well under pressure.

That's why SHYAC has a new course available for young people who want to learn more about theatre.

The 10 week TheatreSkills program, taught by experienced and qualified tutor Cindy Pryma, will guide students through the basics of stagecraft, including simple dances and songs, acting skills, improvisation techniques and more.

The course runs until June 7 on Tuesday afternoons at the Highlands Youth Centre, Loseby Park. It starts at 4pm for an hour and is open to all school-aged children.

It is managed by SHYAC as part of The Gap program at the centre.

TheatreSkills costs $65 to all existing and new SHYAC members. The fee covers course materials and tutor fees. Anyone who joins the course after week 3 can pay a weekly fee of $10.
